Who We Are
Welcome! Writing Alone Together (WAT) is just that: women writers who meet every morning on Zoom to write within a group setting.
How We Work
We gather weekdays at 8:00 am Eastern Time. The first ten minutes is a check-in on our writing plans. We then turn off our microphones and cameras and write until 9:50 am Eastern Time, at which point the day’s host calls us back to report on how our writing went.
Weekends are more casual: People gather at 9:00 am Eastern Time, but there tends to be more socializing than the weekday group. Writing tends to start around 9:30 am Eastern Time.
Dues
In order to sustain this website, we request yearly dues of $15 (U.S.) to be paid on March 21 of each year. Writers are welcome to join at any time and no dues are owed until the following March. A notice will go out in the beginning of March to remind members to pay dues.
These dues will be used to cover the costs of web hosting, the domain, and Zoom.
Zoom
Because we have our own Zoom, we can now allow members to schedule time outside of our WAT writing time. These times are meant for writing-related meetings such as:
- Individual writing dates
- Reading/book groups
- Accountability check-ins
Please reserve your meeting time: Reserve a Zoom

Publications
Do you have a publication to add to our WAT publications page? E-mail the title, author, and link to writingalonetogether2020@gmail.com.
Our History
We welcome all writers who identify as women. WAT was the brainstorm of Kirsten Major who created this group during Covid lockdowns as a way to provide support and accountability at a time when our already isolated work as writers had become even more isolating.
Our group has sustained long past Covid, and we still meet to write–alone–together. This is not a workshop but a safe space to write in the company of others.
What started off as a small group has grown into a blossoming community. We have spilled over into the real world, with meet-ups and a yearly retreat at Boyds Mills (formerly Highlights Foundation). Our community comes from all over the country (and occasionally from other countries). We are at all stages of writing careers from just starting out to published authors.
We always welcome new female writers. Please drop in on a session and check us out.
